Only 44% of British children aware what Christmas is

　　Less than half of British children between the ages of seven and 11 are aware that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, according to a BBC poll.

　　英国广播公司所做的一项调查表明，在英国7岁至11岁的儿童中，不到一半的孩子知道圣诞节是庆祝耶稣诞生的节日。

　　Just 44 percent of 1,063 children questioned understood that Christmas returns each year for the birth of Christ.

　　在接受调查的1063名儿童中，只有44%的人知道每年的圣诞节是纪念耶稣诞生的节日。

　　Children from Northern Ireland were the most aware of the link, with 71 percent giving the correct response .

　　其中，北爱尔兰儿童了解这一来历的最多，有71%的儿童给出了正确答案。

　　The vast majority of children -- 89 percent -- said they were excited by Christmas, and 63 percent of them said they were saving money to buy gifts for their close friends.

　　89%的儿童说，圣诞节让他们兴奋不已；63%的孩子说，他们正在攒钱，要买礼物送给好朋友。

　　According to the poll, 15 percent of children said they spent more money on their mother, while seven percent said they spent more on their father. Some 66 percent tried to be fair and spent equal amounts on both parents.

　　调查显示，15%的孩子为妈妈买礼物花的钱较多，7%的孩子为爸爸花的钱多。约66%的孩子不偏不向，为爸妈花的钱一样多。

　　Among the children questioned, 29 percent said Christmas was primarily about thinking of others, while 24 percent said it more about giving than receiving presents.

　　29%的受访儿童认为圣诞节主要是一个关心他人的节日，24%的孩子说圣诞节的主题是送礼物，而不是收礼物。(文／张芸)
