　　Took up gymnastics in Beijing's Shishahai spare-time sports school at age eight. Joined the Army's "August 1st" team in 1975 and the national gymnastics team in 1978. Known for her original UB stunt of "hecht back salto with full turn to dismount".

　　A key member of the Chinese national women's gymnastics team during the late '70s and early '80s, Ma Yanhong first earned a name for herself by winning the uneven bars title at the 20th World Championships at the age of 15 to become China's first world champion in gymnastics. For her stunning performances in a number of major international competitions she was described as a "fairy primrose" for China's fast development in the sport.

　　8岁在北京什刹海业余体校学体操，1975年入八一队，1978年入国家队，以独创高低杠绷杠后空翻转体360度下等高难动作而著称。

　　当前情况：

　　洛杉矶奥运会后，马燕红正式退役，1987年，她前往英国密尔特朗大学进修英语。1989年，她转到美国洛杉矶，进入加州州立大学攻读企业管理学并出任洛杉矶市体操俱乐部教练。1994年，马燕红回到北京，任国士体育管理有限责任公司总经理，目前在中国证券市场研究设计中心任职，专门负责高尔夫球赛事的推广。
