　　7岁进入上海体育俱乐部开始游泳训练，12岁入上海游泳队，16岁调入国家队。

　　1995年11月 在里约热内卢举行的第二届世界短池游泳锦标赛女子100米自由泳比赛中，以53秒23的成绩获冠军；在女子50米自由泳比赛中，以24秒62的成绩获冠军；与队友合作，以3分37秒的成绩获女子4×１00米自由泳接力冠军

　　1996年7月20日 在美国亚特兰大举行的第26届奥运会女子100米自由泳比赛中，以54秒50的成绩，打破奥运会纪录并并获冠军；7月22日，在女子4×１00米自由泳接力比赛中，与晁娜、年芸、单莺合作，以3分40秒48的成绩，获亚军；7月26日，在女子50米自由泳比赛中，以24秒90的成绩获亚军

　　1997年4月19日 参加在哥德堡举行的第三届世界短池游泳锦标赛，与晁娜、单莺和年芸合作，以3分34秒55的成绩夺得4×１00米自由泳冠军，并打破了由中国队于1993年在西班牙创造的3分35秒97的世界纪录；与队友合作以3分57秒83的成绩获女子4×１00米混合泳接力冠军

　　1997年8月 参加第七届泛太平洋游泳锦标赛，获女子50米自由泳冠军和女子100米自由泳亚军
