Die on the vine愿望/计划落空,中途夭折 此说法从葡萄牙语而来,Grapes that ripen (成熟) on vines (葡萄藤) are put to good use. Grapes that do not are of no use at all. From that, things that die.on the vine - dreams, hopes, ideas, plans, etc - fail to materialise (实现). 如这个例句,"I hoped for a good harvest this year but that' s a hope that has die on the vine," Mortimer sighed. (莫迪尔说:“我希望今年有个好收成,但是这个希望看来要落空了。”)
