  Norman Bethune was a well-known international human itarian. InJanuary 1938, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, he gave up his comfortable life and job in Canada, and came to China to work for the Chinese army. Bethune, then nearly 50 years old, came to China from Vancouver with Joan Fletcher, anurse, as a two-person medical team。

  诺尔曼·白求恩是众所周知的国际友人。1938年1月,在抗日战争期间,他放弃在加拿大熟识的生活和工作,来到中国并为中国工作。白求恩以近50岁的年龄,和护士琼·莱彻组成两人医疗小分队,从温哥华不远万里来到中国。

  In the summer of 1929 during his annual leave, he travel ledfar inland to Suiyuan Province helping the China International Famine Relief Commission. Like wise in 1932 he worked on floodrelief in Hubei Province. During the mid-1930s he became friendly with many Chinese and foreign progressive people and worked with them, sometimes in underground activities supporting the Red Army。

  At the time Japanese forces entered Nanking in 1937, Rabe hadbeen in China for nearly thirty years as the chief manager of Siemens. Born in Hamburg in 1882, Rabe had traveled to Africa before settling in China. Revered in China as “the living Buddha of Nanking,” In many ways, this helped him to eventually save the lives of over 250,000 Chinese civililians that had taken shelter in his “International Safety Zone。”

  1937年,日军攻占南京时,拉贝作为西门子公司的总经理已在中国工作了近30年。1882年,拉贝生于德国汉堡,在中国定居之前他曾游历非洲。被尊崇为“南京活佛”的拉贝,在他“国际安全区”的庇护下,通过多种方式最终救助了近25万中国民众的生命。

  In 1917, his parents moved to China, and settled in Tianjin in1920, a decision that was to change Epstein's life. He participatedin China's revolution in the 1930s as a journa list, going tofront-line revolutionary bases and writing eyewitness accounts of the bravery of the Chinese people as they fought for national independence and liberation. At the end of China's War of Resistance Against Japan, Epstein went to the USA and worked for the Allied Labor News. He and other progressive thinkers united inurging the US government not to interfere in China's internalaffairs。

  Born and raised in Canada, Rowswell began studying Chinese inthe mid 1980s, first at the University of Toronto and later atBeijing University. While in Beijing, Rowswell became interested inChinese performing arts, particularly xiangsheng, a popular form ofcomic dialogue. A chance opportunity to appear on television suddenly gave Rowswell national exposure under the stage name"Dashan". Repeated appearances on programs with audiences in the hundreds of millions gradually turned "Dashan" into a house hold name across China。

  生长于加拿大,大山(本名:罗斯韦尔)于上世纪80年代中期开始学习汉语,他先是在多伦多大学,之后在北京大学学习。在北京学习期间,罗斯韦尔开始对中国的表演艺术,尤其是相声,产生了兴趣。一个偶然的机会使罗斯韦尔以“大山”这个名字闻名全中国。此后,“大山”多次出现在各种电视节目中,为亿万中国观众所逐渐熟悉,“大山”也变得家喻户晓。
