　　欧盟签署《参展合同》仪式上的致辞

　　女士们、先生们，下午好！

　　今天，我们非常高兴在此与欧洲委员会(the European Commission)签署中国2010年上海世博会《参展合同》。在此，我谨代表上海世博会组织者，对欧洲委员会，特别是安博大使(Ambassador Abou)对2010年上海世博会的大力支持表示衷心的感谢，并对你们一直以来为欧盟参展筹备工作所付出的不懈努力以及卓有成效的工作表示由衷的谢意！

　　在国务院总理温家宝今年春节期间访问欧盟总部时，欧洲委员会主席巴罗佐宣布了欧盟参加上海世博会的决定，这一决定打破了贵方不参加在欧盟以外举办的世博会的常规政策，充分体现了对中欧战略伙伴关系和上海市的高度重视。确展之后，在安博大使本人的全力支持和推动下，欧盟的各项参展筹备工作进展顺利。我们相信，今天的签约将对欧盟下一步的筹展工作产生深远而积极的影响。

　　近年来，欧盟在国际事务中发挥着越来越重要的作用。在本次上海世博会上，欧盟将以“智能欧洲”(Intelligent Europe)为参展主题，通过创新、多样、生动的展示方式向7000万的国内外参观者展现欧盟在科技、文化等各个领域的创新成果，并与世人分享欧盟及其成员国在城市可持续发展、管理方面的先进理念和成功实践。

　　2004年扩大之后的欧盟已成为中国最大的贸易合作伙伴，而中国则是欧盟的第二大贸易合作伙伴。我们相信，上海世博会将为欧盟进一步向13亿中国人民宣传欧盟、提升欧盟在中国的形象提供一次历史性的机遇，并将成为双方在更大范围、更深层次、更广领域加强全面战略合作伙伴关系的新平台。作为组织者，我们定将竭尽全力为欧盟的参展做好服务和配合工作。

　　最后，请允许我再次对欧盟对上海世博会的积极参与和热情支持表示由衷的感谢，并预祝欧盟在2010年上海世博会上的展示取得圆满成功！谢谢！

　　Today, we are very happy to have signed here with the European Commission the Participation Contract for Expo 2010 Shanghai China. On this occasion, I would like, on behalf of the Shanghai Expo organizer, to extend our sincere gratitude towards the European Commission and in particular to Ambassador Abou for your great support to the Shanghai Expo. We highly appreciate your continuous efforts for EU’s preparation for its participation in the Expo 2010 and we would like to congratulate on your great achievements so far。

　　When the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a visit to the EU headquarters during the Spring Festival of this year, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso announced the EU’s decision to participate in the Expo Shanghai, which made history by attending, for the first time, the World Expo to be held by a non-EU member. This reflects the great importance the EU attaches to the Sino-European strategic partnership and its relations with Shanghai. After its confirmation and with the strong support and help of Ambassador Abou, the EU is advancing successfully and smoothly its preparations for the participation. We believe that the signing of the Participation Contract today will exert a profound and favorable influence on the next step of EU’s preparations。

　　In recent years, the EU has been playing an increasingly important role in international affairs. Revolving around the theme of Intelligent Europe at the Expo 2010, the EU will reveal to 70 million visitors, home and abroad, its latest achievements in fields such as technology and culture in innovative, diverse, and vivid ways, with a view to share with the world its advanced ideas and successful practices in terms of sustainable urban development and management。

　　After its expansion in 2004, the EU has become China’s largest trade partner and China the second largest of the EU. We believe that the Shanghai Expo is a historical opportunity to further familiarize 1.3 billion Chinese people with the EU and to promote its public image in China, and that it is also a new platform where both sides are able to develop their comprehensive strategic partnership in a much broader, deeper, and wider manner. As the organizer, we will spare no effort in providing good services and support for EU’s participation。

　　Lastly, please allow me once again to extend our sincere gratitude to the EU for your active involvement and enthusiastic support. Wish the EU every success at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China! Thank you!
