  美国总统奥巴马首次访华

  应国家主席胡锦涛邀请,美国总统奥巴马15日晚乘专机抵达上海,开始对中国进行为期4天的国事访问。这是奥巴马今年1月就任美国总统后首次访华。他也是就任后一年内对中国进行国事访问的首位美国总统。

  访问期间,胡锦涛将与奥巴马举行正式会谈,就中美关系及共同关心的重大问题广泛、深入交换意见,共商进一步发展中美关系大计。

  1972年,时任美国总统尼克松开启中美关系的“破冰之旅”,首先来到的就是上海。今年是中美建交30周年,有“东方明珠”美誉的上海再次见证了中美关系发展历程中的重要时刻。

  U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in China's economic hub Shanghai on Sunday night,starting a state visit to China。

  Air Force One touched down at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in heavy rain atabout 23:10.

  This is Obama's first state visit to China since he assumed the presidency in January. Heis also the first U.S. president who paid a state visit to China within one year in office。

  This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the United States。

  U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Susan Rice and National Security Advisor James Jones also arrivedin Shanghai Sunday night。

  President Obama will meetwith local officials on Monday and have a dialogue with Chineseyouth, during which he is supposed to answer questions from netizens via Xinhuanet, a news website of the Xinhua News Agency on Monday。

  He will leave Shanghai Monday afternoon for Beijing, where he will hold talks with ChinesePresident Hu Jintao and meet with other Chinese leaders。

  Leaders of the twocountries are expected to discuss bilateral ties and major in ternational and regional issues of common concern, according to diplomatic sources。

  Presidents of the two countries have met several times since Obama took office。

  They agreed to forgepositive, cooperative and comprehensive ties in the 21st centuryduring their first meeting on the sidelines of the Group of 20financial summit in London in April and pledged to further suchrelations in another meeting five months later in NewYork。

  Obama's visit to China will be of great significance for the development of Sino-U.S. tiesin the new era, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday。
