A German dentist has come under fire for rejecting service to a 16-year-old Turkish boy on the basis of the child’s name: Cihad。

According to a report Sunday by the Bild newspaper, Cihad went to see a dentist in Donaueschingen, in the Southern State of Baden-Wuerttemberg in Germany. His name caught the attention of a female dentist, who asked him where his name comes from。

The dentist was offended at the name "Cihad," which she understood as a declared war on all non-Muslims. She refused service to the boy, citing what she considered an inclination for violence。

The teenager’s parents were shocked at the dentist’s decision. They told the media that they named their son for no religious reason. As it was reported, the ethnic Turkish young man was born in Germany, and his name had not brought any problems。

The registration management organization of Donaueschingen said the name Cihad is common in Turkey。

The municipal government also didn’t understand the dentist’s reaction。

The Dentist Association of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg can’t give an explanation for such an issue。

The association said cleaning teeth has nothing to do with patient’s name or religion, and warned that the dentist may be fined。

The dentist has expressed her regrets under great pressure from the public。
