　　Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday published a moving essay in Bloomberg Businessweek in which he publicly announced for the first time that he is gay. Cook is the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to publicly come out。

　　周四，苹果CEO蒂姆。库克(Tim Cook)在彭博《商业周刊》发表了一篇感人至深的文章，首次宣布自己是一名同性恋者。库克是第一位出柜的《财富》500强公司CEO。

　　Cook is famously private and said he doesn’t think of himself as an activist, but decided to speak out to help others. “If hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy,” Cook wrote。

　　库克是出了名的低调，他也不认为自己是一位激进分子。但是为了帮助别人，他决定说出来。库克写道，“如果听说苹果CEO是一名同性恋者能够抚慰其他一些同性恋者，或者让饱受孤独的任何人感到一丝安慰，或者是能激励某人坚持他们的平等观念，牺牲我个人一点隐私也是值得的。”

　　Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It’s made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It’s been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It’s also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you’re the CEO of Apple。

　　库克说，“同性恋身份让我更加深刻地理解作为少数群体的意义，并且给予了我一扇窗去了解其他少数群体每天必须面对的挑战。身为同性恋者让我更富有同情心，它给了我更丰富的生活。虽然有时候会感到艰难和不适，但它一直给我信心，让我坚守自己的内心，走自己的路，克服逆境和偏执。它还给了了我一张‘犀牛皮’，并在我担任苹果CEO后派上用场。”

　　As a company, Apple is firmly in support of marriage equality and has opposed legislation considered discriminatory toward the LBGTQ community. The company supports workplace equality legislation in its home state of California and earlier this year took a stand against Arizona legislation that would have allowed businesses to refuse service on the basis of religion. Bloomberg Businessweek editor Josh Tyrangiel said in a video accompanying the editorial that Apple’s board of directors supported Cook’s decision to publicly announce that he’s gay。

　　作为一家公司，苹果坚定支持婚姻平等，反对针对同性恋群体的歧视性立法。苹果支持其所在地加州的职场平等法案。今年年初，苹果站出来抗议亚利桑那州提倡企业宗教歧视的法案。彭博《商业周刊》的编辑Josh Tyrangiel在一段视频中发表社论称，苹果公司董事会支持库克的决定。

　　Cook said privacy remains important to him and that he will “continue to spend virtually of my waking time focused on being the best CEO I can be。”  In the end, he said, “The company I am so fortunate to lead has long advocated for human rights and equality for all. We’ll continue to fight for our values, and I believe that any CEO of this incredible company, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, would do the same. And I will personally continue to advocate for equality for all people until my toes point up。”

　　库克说，隐私对他来说依旧重要，他将会继续把几乎所有可用时间投入到成为最好的CEO上。他最后表示，“我十分荣幸能够带领这家提倡人人平等的公司，继续为我们的价值观而战。我相信这家伟大公司的任何一任CEO，不论种族、性别或性取向如何，都会做出同样的选择。在我有生之年，我将继续主张人人平等。”
