海文学校：2007考研英语翻译真题点评

　　翻译题历来被认为是考研英语中比较难的一种题目。一方面，翻译本身就是英语学习中的难点；另一方面，考研英语中的翻译题考的都是结构复杂的长难句。总的来说，翻译题对语法的要求较高，需要同学们能够熟练分析长句结构、层次，才能从整体上把握全句的意思。另外，翻译题出的单词一般不会出现大纲之外的单词，但是，即使是大纲内的单词、词组，在具体语境下也有特殊含义，这也需要同学们具体分析。考研英语的翻译题不是纯单句的翻译，它可称为“阅读式翻译”，是在一篇文章中节选出5个长句要求考生翻译。

　　因此，海文学校建议同学们在做翻译题时要充分利用所给文章，在理解文章大意的基础上准确翻译划线的长句。不可否认，有些英语好手可以不看文章的基础上直接翻译，但是对大多数同学来说，划线句子的意思并不能做到一目了然。因此，一般情况下，文章还是要读的，特别是划线句子中的一些代词、专有名词等，只有读文章才能懂。根据以上分析，我们可以总结出做翻译题的顺序：

　　首先，快速的通读全文，这一步不必像做阅读题时读的那样仔细，把握文章大意即可；

　　其次，分析划线句子的结构，理解句意；

　　第三，结合全文语境，准确翻译关键词；最后，根据句子结构，串词成句。

　　下面我们就具体分析一下2007年的翻译真题：

　　2007年的翻译题文章主要讲的就是法律知识对记者工作的重要性。这一点的理解是我们具体做翻译题的基础。

　　46. 原文：Traditionally, legal learning has been viewed in such institutions as the special preserve of lawyers, rather than a necessary part of the intellectual equipment of an educated person.

　　(1)句子结构的分析：Traditionally, legal learning has been viewed in such institutions (as the special preserve of lawyers), rather than a necessary part of the intellectual equipment of an educated person. 其中主干结构是legal learning has been viewed as...rather than...。view...as中间插入的介词词组in such institutions是状语，但such institutions的含义要到前一句中去找，指的是“Canadian universities”。本句是动名词短语做主语，谓语部分是现在完成时的被动语态结构，这些都是理解句义必须要注意到的。

　　(2)完整译文: 传统观点认为，在这种机构(加拿大的高等学府)中，法律的学习一直被看作是律师们的专门工作，而不是一个受过良好教育的人所必需的知识储备。

　　47. 原文： On the other, it links these concepts to everyday realities in a manner which is parallel to the links journalists forge on a daily basis as they cover and comment on the news.

　　(1)句子结构分析：On the other, it links these concepts to everyday realities in a manner [ which is parallel to the links ( journalists forge on a daily basis as they cover and comment on the news.)] 。本句的结构是主语＋谓语＋which引导的定语从句(其中又包含了省略引导词的定语从句＋as引导的状语从句)； these concepts的含义也在前边的句子中，它指的是前面提到的justice, democracy and freedom； 而which引导的定语从句which is...the news修饰manner，其中又包含一层定语从句journalists...daily basis，修饰links，还有as引导的状语从句也修饰links。本句的难点是在一个大的定语从句中又套着一个小的定语从句。理解这一句的关键是看懂这两层的定语从句。

　　(2)完整译文：另一方面，法律又将这些观念(指正义、民主和自由)与日常的实际生活联系在一起，它的方式就如同新闻工作者在报道和评论新闻事件时，在日常生活的基础上，把这些观念与实际情况结合一样。

　　48. 原文：But the idea that the journalist must understand the law more profoundly than an ordinary citizen rests on an understanding of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media.

　　(1)句子结构分析：But the idea ( that the journalist must understand the law more profoundly than an ordinary citizen ) rests on an understanding of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media.　本句结构是主语＋that引导的同位语从句＋谓语＋宾语； the established conventions和special responsibilities均修饰news media的of短语结构。这一句重点考查对同位语从句的理解，同时，本句的宾语部分的复杂短语的翻译也是难点之一。

　　(2)完整翻译：但是，有一种观点认为：新闻工作者应该比普通公民对于法律有更加深刻的理解，这个观点是在建立对新闻媒体的既定规范和特殊的社会责任有深刻认识的基础之上的。

　　49. 原文： In fact, it is difficult to see how journalists who do not have a clear grasp of the basic features of the Canadian Constitution can do a competent job on political stories.

　　(1)句子结构分析： In fact, it is difficult to see how journalists ( who do not have a clear grasp of the basic features of the Canadian Constitution ) can do a competent job on political stories. 本句结构是形式主语it＋表语＋不定式+真实主语 。真实主语是how引导的从句，该从句的主语是journalists，谓语部分是can do...；who引导的定语从句修饰journalists。本句的主干it is difficult to do sth. 是常见句型，但不定式的中的”sth.”是个复杂从句，本身又带有一个定语从句，看清这一点是理解这一句的关键。

　　(2)完整翻译：事实上，人们很难想象那些对于没有清晰掌握加拿大宪法的基本特点的新闻工作者能够胜任报道政治方面的新闻的工作。

　　50. 原文：While comment and reaction from lawyers may enhance stories, it is preferable for journalists to rely on their own notions of significance and make their own judgments.

　　(1)句子结构分析：While comment and reaction from lawyers may enhance stories, it is preferable for journalists to rely on (their own notions of significance) and (make their own judgments.) 本句结构是while引导的状语从句＋形式主语it＋真实主语to rely on...and make...。本句比起前几句略显简单，没有太多复杂的修饰成分，从句是个常见的while引导的状语从句，主句it is preferable for sb. to do sth.也很常见。

　　(2)完整翻译：虽然律师的评论和反应当然能够增加新闻报道的内容，但是，记者们依靠自己对于事件重要性的认识来做出判断更加可取。

　　总之，翻译题虽然较难，但是通过有目的、有技巧的复习也是可以提高的。况且，翻译水平的提高，对整个英语水平的提高都是有很大帮助的。翻译题考得都是长难句，加强对长难句的理解能力，对做阅读题中大量出现的事实细节题很有帮助，因为，长难句是阅读中事实细节题最爱考的出题点之一。另外，长难句的熟练掌握，如果能运用到作文中，也是作文得高分的关键。因此，海文学校提醒各位同学：自己动手翻译真题，是翻译题乃至整个考研英语复习以及英语能力提高很好的一个方法。
