Chinese children are accessing the Internet earlier than ever before, according to a survey on minors' use of the Internet and social networking services published on Thursday, Xinhua reported. The survey, conducted by the Young Pioneers of China, shows that more than 70 percent of minors first access the Internet at or before the age of 10.

According to the survey, most Chinese minors surf the net for general recreational as well to listen to music, play games and chat online. The survey also found that minors read news, send and receive e-mails and use Internet search engines less than adults.

More than 80 percent of parents said that it is necessary to limit children's time online and provide them with guidance on Internet use.
