　　One morning a fox sees a cock. He thinks,"This is my breakfast.''

　　一天早上，一只狐狸看到了一只公鸡。他想：这是我的早餐。

　　He comes up to the cock and says, "I know you can sing very well. Can you sing for me?'' The cock is glad1. He closes his eyes and begins to sing. The fox sees that and caches him in his mouth and carries him away2.

　　他走上前对公鸡说：“我知道，你唱歌唱得非常好听，你能唱给我唱一首吗？”公鸡很高兴，闭上眼睛就唱了起来。狐狸看到这些一口咬住公鸡就叼走了。

　　The people in the field see the fox.They cry, "Look, look! The fox is carrying the cock away.'' The cock says to the fox, "Mr Fox, do you understand? The people say you are carrying their cock away. Tell them it is yours. Not theirs.'' The fox opens his mouth and says, "The cock is mine, not yours.'' Just then the cock runs away3 from the fox and flies into the tree。

　　在田地里的人们看到了狐狸，大声喊道：“看，看！狐狸把公鸡叼走了。”公鸡对狐狸说：“狐狸先生，你能理解么？人们认为你叼走了他们的公鸡。告诉他们这是你的，不是他们的。”

　　狐狸张开她的嘴说：“公鸡是我的，不是你们的。” 就在那时，公鸡从狐狸的嘴里逃了出来飞进了树林里。 寓意：这个故事体现了中国的一句古话“以其人之道还至其人之身”，所以那些自以为很聪明的人一定要时刻保持警惕，不然就会被别人用同样的办法来对付自己。

　　注释：

　　1. glad 高兴的，愉快的 例：I’m very glad to see you again. 再次见到您很高兴。 glad 和happy都表示“高兴的”，但两者是有区别的，happy 比glad表示的程度更强烈一些，happy除了“高兴的”之外，还有“幸福的”意思。

　　2. carry away 搬走，带走 例：Lily carries away her school bag. 李丽把他的书包拿走了。 另外take away也有“搬走，带走”的意思

　　3. run away 逃跑，跑掉 例：He broke the window and ran away. 他打破窗子逃跑了。
