用十二生肖纪年，在我国至少从南北朝时期就开始了。尽管不能确定十二生肖的确切来历，但因为它的通俗、方便又具趣味性，所以一直沿用至今，成为古人留给我们的一种仍有实用价值的宝贵遗产。今年是马年，说说“我属马”“马年是我的本命年”英语都怎么说。

　　正因为有生肖纪年的习俗，于是在我们这里有了“本命年”的概念。在英语里，“本命年” 的地道说法是year of fate或者animal year，此外也可以看到把“本命年”翻译为birth year和big year的。

　　This year is my year of fate。

　　This year is my animal year。

　　This year is my birth year。

　　This year is my big year。
