Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. It is my great honor to be here and the title of my speech is," The Essence of Life."
Last summer I started to learn to play tennis. It took me a lot of time to practice, but the tremendous pleasure I got from the tennis court made me feel well rewarded. My classmates enjoy ballgames. Tens of boys playing basketball on the playground every afternoon always makes the best campus picture that draws hundreds of girls eyes. Sports can't improve our physique and relax our mind, but can also bring us close to nature, and enable us to enjoy our lives fully.
Indeed, the essence of sports lays not so much in the fun that they give us, but as their capacities to work miracles to our body and soul. Or, as the goal of the Olympic Games indicates, it can make us run faster, jump higher, and physically stronger. The spirit of Olympics goes far beyond sports, It is am active way of living, a demonstration of self-confidence and a presentation of courage .The Olympics spirit has enlivened people in China, especially the younger generation.. I am a prime example. I encountered many obstacles in preparing for this speech contest I must admit that I didn't -realize the meaning of competition when I set out to prepare for this contest.
I wanted to quit when I couldn't finalize the essay for the speech . Even last night, I prayed in my bed for a sore throat, or a stomachache, or anything that could excuse me from standing here.
Yes coming to this contest has been an arduous journey for me. Facing you my honorable judges and audience, I feel it's time to be myself. It's time to be self-confident. The idea dawned on me when I was stepping onto the platform.
To compete means to strive to win. As a contestant I wish my success; as a participant on the contest, I wish its success which relies on the joint efforts of all the participants.
Standing here, I can't help marveling how much the competition has changed me; marveling how bright the world is when we look at competition in a new light and take it as motivation for a better future. Thank you all for listening!
