生前

　　我有一个澳洲的朋友，她的狗狗因年老，病得很厉害，上个周六它走了(安乐死)。当时兽医为了安慰我的朋友，发给她了一首诗：

　　IF IT SHOULD BE (如果应该如此)

　　If it should be that I grow frail and weak 如果我终将会衰老

　　And pain should keep me from my sleep 如果病痛使得我无法入睡

　　Then you must do what must be done 那么朋友，你一定要来帮助我

　　For this last battle can't be won 战胜这场我自己已无法取胜的战斗

　　You will be sad I understand 我知道你将会悲伤

　　Don't let this grief then stay your hand 但请不要让悲伤常驻

　　For this day more than the rest 就在今天

　　Your love and friendship stand the test 你的爱和友谊经受着比以往更大的考验

　　We've had so many happy years 我们曾共同拥有过多少欢乐的岁月啊

　　What is to come can hold no fears 什么能阻止我们的泪儿流

　　You'd not want me to suffer so 你不忍再让我经受痛苦

　　When the time comes to let me go 在我将要离你而去的时刻

　　Take me where my needs they'll tend 送我到我该去的地方吧

　　Only stay with me till the end 只是请一定陪我到最后

　　And hold me firm and speak to me 并且，请紧紧地抱着我，用言语安慰我

　　Until my eyes no longer see 直到我的眼睛再也看不到………

　　I know in time you too will see 我相信到时候你一定会看到

　　It is a kindness you do to me 你为我做得一切都是为我好

　　Though my tail its last has waved 我的尾巴一直摇到最后………

　　From pain and suffering I've been saved 那是在感谢你使我从痛苦中得到解脱

　　Don't grieve that it should be you 请不要为你自己所不得不作出的决定

　　Who has to decide this thing to do 而感动忧伤

　　We've been so close we two these years 多年来咱俩是多么亲近的伙伴啊

　　Don't let your heart hold any tears. 请答应我不要让你的心中有泪
