  Part V:听力与口语训练

  短对话1:

Man: Do you mind if I turn the television off?

Woman: I’m in the middle of watching a program.

  短对话2:

Man: Have you seen the author’s latest bestseller?

Woman: I’ve just finished it. I really recommend it.

  短对话3:

Man: Could I hand in my paper a few days late?

Woman: I’m afraid that’s out of the question.

  短对话4:

Woman: Would you mind waiting a few more minutes?

Man: Not at all. Just take your time.

  短对话5:

Woman: I heard only one person got a perfect grade on the term paper. I’m sure it wasn’t me.

  Man: But it was!

  短对话6:

Man: I thought this book was going to be really boring.

Woman: But it’s actually quite fascinating, isn’t it?

  短对话7:

Man: I missed the bus again today because I truned the alarm clock off in my sleep. I don’t know what to do.

Woman: Try putting it far away enough from your bed, so you’ll have to get up to turn it off.

  短对话8:

Man: How did you ever finish that long novel so fast?

Woman: It was fun to read, but what was hard was remembering all the characters’ names.

  Part VI:快速阅读

  The Flu(流感)

There’s nothing gradual(渐渐的) about the flu: it hits you like a hammer(锤子). One minute you’re feeling fine and the next you can be shivering(冷得发抖), burning up(烧得难受), and then shivering again. In minutes, your legs become weak(无力的)and your body aches(作痛)in places that have never hurt before. Influenza(流感)can break out(爆发)so suddenly that people can sometimes say, “It hit me at exactly 9 last night.” But whether the flu strikes(来袭)at night or on the bus to school, there’s just one thing a victim(患者,受害者)wants to do: lie down in bed. A healthy person can fight off(击退)the flu in three to five days, though a cough(咳嗽)and tired feeling can last two more weeks. But often an attack(来袭)of the flu is followed by another illness. Doctors recommend(推荐)that old people , or people of any age with heart or lung(肺部) problems, get a flu vaccine(免疫接种)every year. Because flu viruses(病毒)change all the time, a new vaccine must be prepared each year to protect against(防备)future attacks.
