CHEN Yiyao, a university student and part-time carnival worker who was seriously injured last Sunday afternoon when struck by the "Mad Mouse" at the World Carnival Pudong, is under close observation in Shanghai East Hospital. Chen, 19, is a freshman at Shanghai Normal University. He has a dangerous haematoma on his kidneys which doctors say was like a time bomb that could explode at any time. Since the accident last Sunday, more than 40,000 yuan (US,840) has been paid by World Carnival to the hospital for Chen's treatment, according to a report in the Shanghai Labour Daily. At around 5:00pm on Sunday, after persistent requests from a woman visitor whose wig had blown off and landed inside the barriers of the ''Mad Mouse,'' Chen was given permission by a World Carnival supervisor to retrieve it. Chen was knocked unconscious when struck by one of the "Mad Mouse" trains which were still running at the time. The wigless woman visitor slipped away after the accident. Chen was taken by ambulance to nearby Shanghai East Hospital and was treated for severe bruising to his liver and kidneys. Chen's parents were notified that their son was in a serious, life-threatening condition. Sources at the World Carnival said all employees, including Chen, were insured and if any were injured in accidents, they would have their hospital and medical treatment paid for by the insurance company. |
