10月23日,为助力学生和家长合理规划教育路径、解决升学择校难题,由新浪教育、微博教育、博辞教育联合主办的“新浪&微博2021国际学校秋冬择校巡展•苏州场”成功举办。

  主持人:各位新浪的网友大家好,这里是新浪微博2021国际学校秋冬择校巡展苏州站的活动现场,今天我们非常荣幸邀请到了常州威雅执行校长Paul Silverwood,欢迎您,首先请您跟网友打个招呼。

  Paul Silverwood:Hello hi。

  主持人:第一个问题就是我们常州威雅的办学特色是什么呢?

  Paul Silverwood:Wycombe Abbey School got five key aims。 The first one of those aims is our academic aim。 What that means is that we prepare students for the world‘s Top universities。 We do that by challenging them。 We do that by giving the very best possible opportunity to ask questions in their classes。

  常州威雅有五大目标。第一项是学术培养目标。它的意思就是,我们将致力于培养学生卓越的学术能力,助力其开启世界名校之门。为了达到这个目标,我们在课堂上将利用各种机会向学生抛出问题。通过挑战他们、激发他们,促使他们去思考和创造。

  Our second aim is our pastoral aim。 We are a boarding and day school。 And what that means is that we provide very specialist care for our children。 We want to nurture them as they grow from being very young children into mature and responsible adults。 We do that by giving them lots of responsibility and by lots of mentoring。

  第二项目标是全人关顾方向。我们是一所提供寄宿和走读的学校,这就意味着我们要为孩子们提供最为专业的照顾。我们在校园日常管理中会给予学生更多的参与感、更多的责任与使命,并予以从旁辅导,力争把孩子们培养成成熟、有担当的成年人。

  Our third aim is our enrichment aim。 We offer around 200 different clubs and societies across the creative arts, performing arts, sport and intellectual capacities to make sure that all the children try out lots of different things that are new。

  第三项目标是多元增益目标。我们为学生提供大约200个不同的俱乐部和社群选择,横贯艺术创造、表演艺术、运动和各项智能的培养。所有孩子可以尽情尝试新鲜事物,挖掘潜在的天赋与潜能。

  Our fourth aim is what we call extension。 When the children find a passion for something, we want to help it grow to nurture it further。 And that means that we provide them with experts。 So that they can then go on to become experts themselves。

  第四项目标为潜能拓展。当孩子发现对某个领域、某项事业的热爱后,我们希望可以帮助他在这个方向成长,并且走得更远。那就意味着我们需要拥有丰富的专家资源为学生提供指导。站在前人的肩膀上,学生们慢慢成长,直到自己也成为专项领域的权威人士。

  And our fifth aim’s perhaps the most important, is what we call community。 We want our children to be part of something bigger。 We want them to contribute as well as take。 We want to share in the successes of others and then to give it to the local community and of course, to the wider world。

  我们的第五项目标可能是最重要的,那就是社区建设。我们希望孩子们能融入更大的集体,希望他们能尽己所能地贡献自己的力量,与志同道合的朋友分享彼此的成功,在当地社区或者更广阔的世界实现自己的人生价值。

  主持人:如果孩子将来有出国留学的计划,能否给家长们一些建议? 例如从当地的中国学校转到国际化学校的最佳时机。为什么?

  Paul Silverwood:Going to a new school is obviously really important for any family and child to make that decision。 They have to do it at the right time for each individual child。

  去到一所新学校对任何家庭和孩子来说都是一项非常重要的决定。家长们需要为孩子们在合适的时机择校。

  But I would say for the style of education we provide, the younger child can join us, the better。 And the reason for that is that our education is holistic。 It doesn‘t mean that we are going to cram them with knowledge in a very short period of time to pass an exam。 What we are doing is helping them grow as individuals。 And that means that we need to nurture them over as long a period as possible, making sure that they become truly bilingual, making sure that they become open-minded that we tap into their creativity and that takes time nurturing patience。 We also need to make sure that children have got plenty of time to make mistakes because we all do that。 I think to grow and mature into a good responsible adult and to become a really good decision maker in the future, you need to have time to develop。

  但是我想说的是,对于我们提供的这种教育模式,孩子在越小的时候入学,对他的积极影响会更大。原因在于,我们所奉行的是“全人教育”理念。我们从不试图在短期内通过突击学习、填鸭学习来帮助学生通过眼前的一场考试。相反,我们需要在尽可能长的一段岁月中逐步培养他们成为优秀的个体,成为一名真正的双语能力者,一名创意无限、思想开放的新时代人才。同样,我们也需要确保有足够的时间给孩子们试错。犯错并不可耻,我们每个人都会犯错。重要的是在每次失败中获取经验教训。我想,从一个孩子成长到一个好的决策者,一个负责、有担当的成年人,众所周知,这需要时间和耐心“静待花开”。

  主持人:Okay, thank you。在中国国际化学校和当地学校的国际班有什么不同?

  Paul Silverwood:I think i‘ve touched on that and I think the most important thing about our style of education is that we want the children to think for themselves。 We don’t just want to provide language, cultural and mathematical and organization in their brains。 That‘s very important, logic is really important。 But we also want to make sure that children learn to ask question, to doubt themselves at times, and to actually become people that think。 What we are trying and do is to answer most questions with another question。

  我认为我们教育模式最大的不同在于我们希望学生多多地进行自主思考。我们不仅为学生传递有关语言、文化、理科或社会组织的知识。诚然,逻辑是一项很重要的能力。但是我们同样也希望学生们能勇于问问题、去提出质疑,最后真正成为自己想要成为的人。我们教育者所能做的就是用更进一步的问题去回答学生们当前提出的问题,循循善诱,启发学生们不断深入地思考。
