　　2012/13年度发布的数据标志着，“开放门户”已经连续第七年报告美国高等教育机构中的国际学生总数增加。这也是“开放门户”连续第九年报告在美国高等教育机构学习的中国学生总数增加，该数字自2005年来一直以16.5%的平均速率增长。与十年前相比，就读于美国学院和大学的国际学生增加了40%，而且在过去三年中，入学率稳步增长。“新”国际学生(2013年秋季第一次入读美国学院或大学的学生)数量的类似增加，表明这一增长趋势还在继续。继2011/12学年7%的增长后，2013年新入学率比前一年增长了10%。尽管近年来有所增长，在美国就读研[微博]究生和大学的2,100万学生中，国际学生所占比例仍稍低于4%。

　　Largest single-year increase of Chinese studentsever

　　Beijing,November 14, 2013-- The numberof Chinese students enrolled in U.S. institutions of higher education in 2012/13increased from 194,029 to 235,597.  Thisrepresents 41,600 additional Chinese students who chose to study in the UnitedStates, a 21 percent increase, over the previous year.  This is according to the 2013 Open Doors Report onInternational Education Exchange (Open Doors)， the annual report oninternational academic mobility published by the Institute of InternationalEducation (IIE) with support from the Bureau of Educational and CulturalAffairs of the United States Department of State, which also indicated thatChina remains first among all countries sending students to the United States。

　　This year’s Open Doors report shows that thetotal number of international students at colleges and universities in theUnited States increased by seven percent to 819,644 during the 2012/13 academicyear. This represents 55,000 more international students enrolled in U.S.higher education - a record high number. Approximately 75 percent of thisincrease in 2012/13 international students came from China.  The strong increasein international student enrollments shows the continued conviction ofinternational students and their parents that a U.S. degree is a soundinvestment in their future careers。

　　The release of the 2012/13 data marks the seventh consecutive yearthat OpenDoors has reported an increase of the total number of internationalstudents in U.S. higher education institutions. 

　　It is also the ninth consecutive year that Open Doors has reportedan increase in the total number of Chinese students studying in U.S. highereducation institutions, which has been growing at an average rate of 16.5percent since 2005.   There are 40percent more international students studying at U.S. colleges and universitiesthan there were a decade ago, and the rate of enrollment has risen steadily forthe past three years.  A similar increasein the number of “new” international students, those enrolling for the firsttime at a U.S. college or university in Fall 2013, indicates that this growthtrend continues. New enrollments in 2013 were up 10 percent from the prior year,following a seven percent increase in 2011/12. Despite the increases in recentyears, international students still make up slightly fewer than four percent ofthe 21 million students enrolled at the graduate and undergraduate levels inthe United States。

　　The growth in the number of international students studying in theUnited States is largely driven by sizeable increases in the number of studentsfrom China, particularly at the undergraduate level. Chinese studentenrollments increased by 21 percent in total, and by 26 percent at theundergraduate level.  Approximately41,600 new Chinese students chose to study in the United States – the largestsingle-year increase ever. 

　　“International education promotes the relationship building andknowledge exchange between people and communities in the United States andaround the world that are necessary to solve global challenges,” said Evan Ryan, Assistant Secretary ofState for Educational and Cultural Affairs.

　　Open Doors also reported that 14,887 American students studied inChina in the 2011/12 academic year, an increase of two percent.  China remains the fifth among the leadinghost destinations for Americans studying abroad behind the UK, France, Italyand Spain, and ahead of Germany, Australia and Japan.  President Obama’s 100,000 Strong Initiative,now part of a private foundation called the “100,000 Strong Foundation,”continues seeking to prepare the next generation of American experts on Chinawho will be charged with managing the growing political, economic and culturalties between the United States and China. The initiative also seeks to developspecific opportunities and funding sources for underrepresented students tostudy in China。

　　The Open Doors Report ispublished by the Institute of International Education, an independent,not-for-profit organization with a network of 19 offices and affiliatesworldwide and over 1,200 member institutions.
