地道英语

24/7 二十四/七

The script of this programme 本节目台词

Someone working really hard at a computer

Have you been working 24/7 lately?

Feifei: 大家好,欢迎收听《地道英语》节目。我是冯菲菲。

William: Hello, I'm William Kremer.

Feifei: So how has your week been William?

William: It has been very busy, I haven't stopped! I feel like I've been working 24/7.

Feifei: 24/7?

William: Yes 24/7, which means 24 hours, seven days a week.

Feifei: 24/7 的意思就是一天24小时,一周7天。You mean you haven't stopped for a whole week?! William take a break... put your feet up. How could you work that much?

William: Well I haven't really worked that much. The term 24/7 can literally mean 24 hours a day, seven days a week but it can also be used to suggest, you know, that you're working really hard or that you haven't had much of a break.

Feifei: 24/7 可以用来表示其字面意思 - 一天24小时,一周7天;但是通常我们用24/7来表示工作很长一段时间,没有休息。

William: So let's look at examples of using 24/7 to mean literally 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A: The shop on the corner is open 24/7.

B: Some buses in London run 24/7.

Feifei: 以上这两个例句里使用的是24/7的字面意思。

William: Now let's listen to some people using the term 24/7 to suggest working really hard or without much of a break.

A: Being a parent is a 24/7 job.

B: My new job expects me to work 24/7

Feifei: 这两个例子则用24/7 来表示很长一段时间或一直做某事,没有休息。So William you haven't actually been working 24 hours, seven days a week then?

William: No.

Feifei: Then put your feet down! You're here to work!

William: OK, OK, although I could do with a foot massage; I've been working a lot.

Feifei: Not a chance!
