  Conversation C

Dean and Beth continue their exploration of Tihua Street.

Dean: You know what I like most about this place?

  Beth: What’s that?

Dean: The shouting. I mean those guys yelling out prices, or at least I assume that’s what they’re doing.

Beth: Right. It’s real in-your-face marketing. I don’t really care for it.

Dean: Oh, I think it’s great. I wish there were more of it back in Minnesota.

Beth: At this time of year? Their tongues would probably freeze!

  Conversation D

Beth: See that temple over there? It’s called the“City God”temple.

Dean: Great name! Does it have a role to play in all this excitement?

Beth: Actually, it contributes a lot of funds and manpower to support local events, and it’s been a part of the local scene since the street first got started as a marketplace.

Dean: Whoever the City God is, he sure knows how to pull in the crowds. I’m going to suggest some of these business strategies to my boss when I get home.

Beth: Well, don’t blame me if you’re given a long vacation on the grounds of mental health concerns.

  Translation-Conversation C
