　　Definition: 1. n. a feeling of extreme worry and unhappiness

　　2.vt. to make someone feel extremely upset and worried.

　　定义：1、名词：痛苦，忧虑，悲伤

　　2、及物动词：使痛苦，使悲伤，使忧虑，折磨

　　Collocation: in distress

　　搭配：在困境中，在忧虑中

　　Examples: 1. The girl was crying and clearly in distress.

　　2.The bad news from home distressed him.

　　例如：1、那个女孩在哭，显然是陷入痛苦之中了。

　　2、家里来的坏消息使他很伤心。

　　如果船只在海上遇险可以说a ship in distress,发出的求救信号可以说成a distress signal. Distress的过去分词可以做表语，表示“痛苦，难受”，如：Why are you looking so distressed?你这么悲伤是怎么回事儿？它的现在分词可以做形容词，表示(使人)痛苦难受，如：It was a distressing situation for all of them.对他们所有人来说都很痛苦的事情。又如：a distressed voice痛苦的嗓音。还可以表示“廉价出售的”，如：distressed goods廉价出售的货物，但是distressed region则是说“贫困的”地区。
