课文内容
Lois and Clark are having lunch in the Daily Star’s cafeteria.
Clark: OK, Lois, out with it.
Lois: Out with what, Clark?
Clark: With whatever it is that’s eating you. You’ve been sitting at your desk all morning trying to look and act normal.
Lois: It’s not working, is it?
Clark: Nope. Everyone can tell there’s something wrong.
Lois: You’re right, Clark. I’ve been exhausted1 all day. My nerves are shot. My concentration is shot. ...
Clark: Lois, if something is wrong, you need to tell me. And you need to let your coworkers know.
Lois: I don’t mind telling you, Clark. But do I really need to tell management?
Clark: You do if it’s affecting your work.
Lois: But surely there are some things that are private. They’re nobody’s business but mine.
Clark: Maybe so. But if your productivity is being compromised,2 you need to at least tell your supervisor.
Lois: Clark, you know Della and I never get along. She’s always looking over my shoulder and breathing down my neck.3
Clark: All the more reason you need to talk to her and ask her to cut you some slack.4
Lois: So what am I supposed to do? Tell her all the messy details of my private life?
Clark: Not necessarily. Just let her know that you have a problem and that you’re dealing with it.
