On February 2, 2002 while Beijing was celebrating the Spring Festival, the Granting Meeting of the 14th Busan Asian Games Honorable Propagate Ambassador was held in Guangzhou Plaza, Beijing.
There were four people who were named Honorable Propagate Ambassadors for the 14th Asian Games, to be held in Pusan, Korea. They were Zhang Baifa, the former deputy-mayor of Beijing and the deputy-director of the Capital Planning Board; Li Ziliu, the former mayor of Guangzhou and the deputy-president of the General Chinese Charity; Tao Siliang, the deputy president of the China Mayor’s Association; and Huang Daren, the president of Guangzhou Zhongshan University. China and Korea have similar cultural backgrounds and a long history of association. Our two nations have both experienced hard pasts, but now strongly stand in Asia and the world today and are becoming increasingly strong. China and Korea are reinforcing the interflow and cooperation for a better tomorrow.
The 14th Asian Games will be held in Pusan, Korea this year, a celebration for all Asian peoples.
Korean representative Yu Bingze, the chief of the 14th Busan Asian Games Committee, addressed the conference. First of all, he expressed his appreciation to the four honorable propagate ambassadors. Secondly, he reviewed the long friendship and cooperation between China and Korea. At last he praised the contribution that Zhang Baifa made to the 11th Beijing Asian Games, during which China showed her power to Asia and the world. And he expressed his wish that Zhang Baifa would lend his experience to Korea for the 14th Busan Asia Games.
Zhang Baifa, Li Ziliu, Huang Daren and Tao Siliang also addressed the meeting to express their thanks for the honor and their appreciation for the friendship between China and Korea. They all hope to make more contributions to a deeper interflow of Chinese and Korean culture, sports, education and so on.
