Marshall draws Winona furthersintosthe debate.
M:Not to sound glib, but maybe global warming isn't such a bad thing: it would be great if Canada had a warmer climate.
W:Don't be so sure. Global warming could cause catastrophic changes in nature. Already it's being blamed for a drastic increase in the occurrence of floods, droughts, wildfires, locust plagues ---
M:Sounds very apocalyptical--- but at least we wouldn't have to spend an arm and a leg escaping the cold: it'd be warm everywhere!
W:Not necessarily: global warming could ultimately lead to global cooling and another ice age.
M:Sounds very paradoxical.
W:If rising ocean levels disrupt currents such as the Gulf Stream that warm northern land masses, it would be like turning off the radiator in your house: the furnace is still raging ---
M:But you're not getting any heat in the living room. Maybe the Kyoto Protocol can save Mother Nature from her man-made identity crisis.
W:I don't know: many people think that Kyoto's a case of too little too late. Greenhouse-gas emissions don't need to be reduced --- they need to be eliminated!
M:I wish there were something we could do to help the situation.
W: There is! Deep-six the flight to Miami and take an eco-friendly camping trip instead!
