Friends,中文译名为《六人行》或《老友记》是美国正在热播的一个sitcom (即situation comedy)也就是我们所说的情景喜剧。它之所以这么受欢迎，是因为其内容轻松，语言幽默，每每令人捧腹不已。对于英语学习者来说，我们更能从中学到不少地道的口语。现在就请大家和我一起感受其中的乐趣吧！

　　Monica和Chandler正坐在咖啡店门门等人，这时有一对恋人从他们身边走过，引发了Monica的感慨：

　　Monica: Would you look at them. Am I ever gonna find a boyfriend again? I gonna die an old maid.

　　Chandler: You're not gonna die an old maid, maybe an old spinster cook.

　　Monica: Thanks!

　　Chandler: Hey now besides, if worst comes to worst, I'll be your boyfriend.

　　Monica: Yeah right.

　　Chandler: Why is that so funny?

　　Monica: You made a joke right? So I laughed.

　　Chandler: Ha-ha-ha. A little to hard. What am I not ah, boyfriend material?

　　Monica: Well, no. You're Chandler. Y'know, Chandler!

　　Chandler: Okay, so we've established my name, and hit me. But theoretically y'know, I mean say we weren't friends, say it's a blind date. I show up at your door, and I'm like“Hey, nice to meet, ya. Hey, oh-hey.”

　　Monica: Well I'd probably be scared of a guy using a fake voice.

　　看到那对恋人亲亲密密的样子，Monica忍不住想自己究竟会不会再找到一个男朋友(Am I ever gonna find a boyfriend again?)，然后她又很沮丧地说自已会终生嫁不出去(I gonna die an old maid.) maid可以解释为“女佣”，前不久好莱坞又制造了另一部类似于麻雀变凤凰的浪漫影片，片名就是Maid In Manhattan,《曼哈顿女佣》。但如果maid前面用了一个old来形容,那它很可能就不是指“年老的女佣”，而是“嫁不出去的老女人”，对于一个年龄已不小的未婚女子来说，old maid这个词听上去或多或少有些刺耳，于是Chandler安慰Monica说You're not gonna die an old maid, maybe an old spinster cook. spinster其实和old maid的意思差不多，只是没那么offensive而已。对于Chandler这种换汤不换药的说法，Monica只能很嘲讽地说了句Thanks.

　　接下来Chandler又说如果Monica真的找不到男朋友的话，他可以做她的男朋友(if worst comes to worst, I'll be your boyfriend.)来看一下if worst comes to worst这个表达法，这是典型的美式英语的用法，在英式英语中它说成if the worst comes to the worst,我们知道the worst表示“最糟的”，如果最糟的事情又发生在最糟的事情上，那可谓是“最最糟糕的事情发生了”，if worst comes to worst表示的就是这种假设，如：If the worst comes to the worst, we'll sell the car.

　　听完Chandler的这个建议之后，Monica大笑着说yeah right,这让Chandler很是不解---我可是一片好意，有什么好笑的嘛(Why is that so funny?) Monica以为Chandler是在开玩笑，所以她笑了(You made a joke right? So I laughed.)。Chandler干笑了几声，他好像是在说真的，可就算是玩笑吧，Monica也笑得太过份了(A little to hard.),难道自己就不是当男朋友的料(What am I not ah, boyfriend material?)他想知道如果自己不是Monica的好朋友，而是她的blind date的话, Monica会不会接受他。blind date就类似于我们所说的“相亲”，比如我们想问别人“你会不会去相亲？”，就可以说Would you ever go on a blind date?另外，blind date也可以用来指相亲双方的任何一人。噢，顺便说一下，主演Rachel的Jannifer Aniston和她著名的老公Brad Pitt就是相识于blind date。
