　　Move over Miss Universe, make room for Miss Captivity(囚禁), a contest to pick the most attractive female inmate(囚犯) serving jail time(服刑期间) in Lithuania.

　　The organizer of the event, television producer Arunas Valinskas, announced(宣布) that he finalized(完成) a deal with the Baltic(波罗的海的) country's sole(唯一的) female prison and already had accepted applications(申请) from 36 contestants. "We'll attempt(试图) to find beauty where you might think there is none," he said at a news conference. "The prisoners are, after all, women first and foremost."

　　Top Lithuanian fashion designers(设计师) will make the contestants' clothes and local dignitaries would serve as the judges, selecting a winner based on“beauty and elegance(优雅)”. In addition to what many might see as the dubious(暧昧的) honor of being crowned Miss Captivity, the winner and runners-up will qualify(使具有资格) for 10,000 litas in prizes though they'd only receive them after completing their jail terms.(刑期)

　　In addition to整个词组相当于一个介词，所以to的后面要接宾语。例如:

　　In addition to native plants, this garden contains numerous trees and flowers from overseas.

　　除了当地的植物之外，这座花园还有无数来自海外的花草树木。

　　In addition相当于副词，通常放在从句的句首，后面接完整的句子。例如：

　　This garden has the best collection of native plants. In addition, it contains numerous trees and flowers from overseas.

　　这座花园有当地植物的最佳珍藏。另外，它还有无数来自海外的花草树木。

　　许多词可以和它替换，如：additionally，furthermore，besides。

　　选美(beauty contest)，是一个让人兴奋的词，是几乎每个女孩子的梦想。今天，我们就来聊聊这个话题。

　　这项活动起源于美国，是美丽的青年女子的比赛，参赛者被称为contestant。她们穿了各种华丽的时装，作出各种姿态，来显示她们的美丽，并由娱乐界名人组成的评委(judeg)来评定其高低。评比的内容当然以她们的姿容为主，但有时也加些其他的点缀，如日才和智力等。

　　美国人把选美称作pageant，并把它定义为beauty&talents contest(美与才能的比赛)。但主办者、参赛者和观众都明白，才能云云其实并不重要，因为Pageant这个词的原意就是“华丽的游行、露天历史剧、毫无意义的表演”，带有浅薄的意味。

　　选美的结果是产生了各种荣誉称号，最光辉夺目的当然是冠军(winner)，美国人叫Miss America，香港人叫Miss Hongkong，以此类推，环球小姐当然就是Miss Universe。幸运之门从此对获奖者打开，她们常常得到在电视、电影和广告等各种领域的发展机会，不少人成为明星(Super star)，从此踏入了上流社会(the upper class)。
