 What were they doing?

 Passage 1

  阅读理解一

Once there was a young man. He was travelling in the northwest of India. One evening he was returning to the tent. It was getting dark, and he was walking along a narrow path. On his right was a wide river and on his left, a thick, dark forest.

Suddenly he saw two green eyes looking at him from among the trees. A tiger was ready to jump on him.

What could he do? Could he jump into the river to save his life by swimming? He looked to the right. In the river there was a very big crocodile. It was waiting for him with its mouth wide open.

He was so afraid that he closed his eyes. He heard the branches moving as the tiger jumped, but felt nothing happened to him. He opened his eyes. Oh, how wonderful it was! The tiger had jumped right over him and was now in the mouth of the crocodile. He was out of danger!
