　　Making her way through the excited crowd in the bookstore, the confident blonde woman is surrounded by a group of admirers. Dressed in a yellow suit and pearls, she signs copies of her book-but she is more than just a well-known author. She is Hillary Rodham Clinton, former first lady, and now a U. S. senator for New York.

　　No other American first lady has gone on to her own career in politics. However, Hillary Clinton was never a typical first lady. Not content to stand on the sidelines during her husband's two terms as president, Hillary earned a reputation as a political powerhouse. From organizing a national healthcare initiative, to fighting for the rights of disadvantaged families, Hillary Clinton worked tirelessly for social justice.

　　Hillary's willingness to solve difficult issues had a negative side, too. Because she was actively involved in administration business, her husband's political opponents often criticized her. But, in keeping with her personality, Hillary Clinton kept her head held high in the face of this criticism.
