　　2003年全国中学生英语能力竞赛(NEPCS)高二组初赛试题解析

　　[编者按]由英语辅导报社承办的一年一度的全国中学生英语能力竞赛已连续举办十年,受到了全国英语界以及广大中学师生的广泛欢迎和一致好评,2003年度的初赛和决赛均已顺利地结束了!应读者要求,本刊在2004年1-3期和4-6期分别推出初赛和决赛试题解析,大家可千万不要错过哟!

　　一、综述

　　全国中学生英语能力竞赛(National English Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students,简称NEPCS)是由英语辅导报社出资承办的,该竞赛认真落实教育部基础教育司关于外语课程改革和测试、评估手段改革的指示精神,面向大多数学生,提倡"重在参与"的精神.该竞赛既有利于检查各地中学的英语教学质量,促进英语教学质量大面积提高,同时又有利于推动素质教育在英语教学中的实施,深化中学英语教学方法和测试方法的改革,激发学生学习英语的兴趣,鼓励那些在英语教学和学习上成绩优秀的师生.

　　2003年高二组初赛赛题受到了参赛师生的广泛好评,是一份难得的好试题!它较好地体现了以下命题原则:

　　1.以"纲"为纲,以"本"为本

　　"纲"是指《全日制高级中学英语教学大纲》、《新课程标准》以及《2003年全国中学生英语能力竞赛简章》."本"即高二英语教科书.

　　2.与教材同步,不超前,也不刻意拔高

　　本次竞赛提前公布范围,与教学同步命题,不超前,不刻意拔高,使竞赛真正为平时的教学服务,不增加学生的学习负担.高二年级初赛试卷范围为SEFC教材高中第二册1-10单元,决赛试卷范围为高中第二册l-12单元.

　　3.兼顾语言知识与能力,知识覆盖面广

　　赛题做到了语言知识和语言能力并重,全方位地考查考生的听、说、读、写、译等语言能力,同时通过智力测试,检测考生智力水平,并增加试题的趣味性和多彩性.初赛由于受客观原因的限制,未考查"说",但这一"遗憾"在决赛中得到了弥补.

　　4.面向大多数学生

　　NEPCS立足于面向大多数学生,正如《章程》所指出的,本竞赛"要避免仅仅选拔'尖子'生参加竞赛,而把大多数学生排除在竞赛之外的做法".

　　5.有利于中学英语教学的改革

　　本次竞赛在题型结构的设计上总结了历年来的经验,听取了一线师生的意见,从而做到了"更切合中国人学习外语的实际,更有利于中学英语教学改革的推进",对中学英语教学起到良好的导向作用,为各地教育行政部门进行英语课程改革和评估研究提供了参考资料,进一步推动了我国基础教育阶段的英语教学改革,把我国的基础教育外语教学改革推上了一个新台阶.

　　二、试题分析

　　受版面所限,本栏目只能就难题、重点题(读者来信问得较多的)进行分析,望同学们见谅!

　　听力部分

　　听力部分包括四大部分,从词汇、句子、对话和短文对考生的听力进行了全方位的考查,分值30分,占全卷分值的20%.

　　1-5题为听辨单词,是听力最低层次的要求.6-10题为句子理解,多为同义句练习在听力中的应用,如:6. ...she had gone to the store.=...she had gone shopping. 11-20题为对话理解,21-30题为短文理解,由去年的一篇短文改为今年的两篇,适当降低了本部分的难度,也可避免因同一篇文章设题过多而出现"连环题"的现象,使听力试题更趋合理.现就部分难题分析如下:

　　原文为:They put $25 a month in their savings account.每月积攒$25,六个月自然可积攒$150.本题易错选C,但该答案中缺少时间状语in one year故答案为B.

　　C.The store sold both fruit and cigarettes on Sundays.

　　D.Henry was afraid the price of the coat might be low on Sundays.

　　原文为:Henry wanted fruit and cigarettes which the store sold,but although it was open on weekends,it didn't sell cigarettes on Sundays. A项的内容,原文中虽未直说,但可推知,故选B.

　　通过录音,我们可知要去的地方为Paris,那么哪幅图代表巴黎呢?这就同时考查了考生的世界地理知识,如图图B中为巴黎的埃菲尔铁塔,故答案选B.

　　该题要求考生综合比较录音中讲到影片Waiter的信息.根据以下信息:1.which is set in a restaurant;2.The London restaurant where the filming took place does actually exist.3.American actor Tom Waters plays the worst cook the world has ever seen and he employs one of the worst waiters,played by Joe Vermont.由此可得知答案为D.

　　笔试部分

　　选择题主要考查考生语言基础知识的掌握情况,虽分值只有20分,但考查的知识面广、灵活性大、综合性强.近年来的单项填空题的命制正朝着"突出语境,强化语意,强调语用"的方向发展,故考生解题时,不应孤立地从语法上考虑,而应综合考虑语法、语境、语意、语用等.现解析如下:

　　16-20该题型的难度介于选择填空和完形填空之间,有利于考查考生的语篇能力.其为全国中学生英语能力竞赛的创新题型之一,该文为一篇新闻报道,内容是巴西遭受历史上最冷的"寒潮"的袭击.16题:"寒潮"为cold waves.17题:up to为习语,"接近于".18题:where引导非限制性定语从句.19题:从上文的dropped to 37 degrees Fahrenheit和下文的to 14 degrees可知答案为dropped.20题:由于严寒,这些地区的海滨被"deserted(遗弃)",人们纷纷逃离.

　　II.阅读理解

　　1.文章长,题量大.

　　全国中学生英语能力竞赛的阅读理解题有如下特点:如果按平时的速度,可能偏慢,会造成没有足够时间解题或挤占其它试题的答题时间.因此,加快阅读速度是应试策略之一.

　　2.材料新颖真实,生活气息浓.所选材料均贴近生活,语言非常地道.

　　3.词汇量大.

　　本部分对词汇量的要求逐年加大,这既是我国经济发展对更高层次外语人才需求的反映,也是对我国中学英语教学几十年经验与教训的总结.

　　4.主、客观题型兼顾.

　　目前,国内其它考试多为清一色的客观题,客观题虽有利于判卷,但主观题则有利于考查考生想像、记忆、创新等能力,克服客观题可凭猜测而得出答案的弊端.在大力提倡"素质教育"和"创新教育"的今天,此乃"明智之举",敢为天下先!

　　竞赛阅读理解部分一般由五篇材料组成,共30小题,计30分,分为两节.A节为客观题,有两篇材料,共10小题.因篇幅有限,以(A)篇为例(题号不变),现分析如下:

　　A)阅读下列短文,从A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出能回答所提问题或完成所给句子的最佳选项.

　　(A)

　　There is really little doubt that the British are different from other members of the European Community as some recent statistics demonstrate(说明). Take marriage for instance. Nowhere else in Europe-except for Portugal-has fewer marriages. 　　(C)篇是一美国读书俱乐部为拓展业务而发的传单或广告函,其包含两个方面的内容:左边是一张回执,右边是正文,告知其成员的收益和该俱乐部的规则.

　　31题和32题可从回执中的"Please enroll me as a member of Book-of-the-Month Club and send me the 4 books I've listed below, billing me $2, plus shipping and handling charges."一句可知答案分别为four和$2.

　　NEPCS的完形填空有两题,均为主观题,两题均为10个小题,总分20分.完形填空的解题步骤大致如下:

　　一、综观全文,把握大意.

　　"完形"须先"完意".准确理解全文是做好完形填空题的关键.

　　二、阅读思酌,精选试填.

　　在了解全文大意的基础上开始逐题试填,认真分析上下文,捕捉尽可能多的信息,如:空格处所缺的是什么

　　语法成分,或是检查词意或词的搭配.依靠自己掌握的英语语言知识,根据文章中的词意、语法、词的搭配或逻辑的需要来作出合理推理.

　　A节是从所给的15个词语中选出10个并用其适当的形式来完成短文,虽多出5个候选词语,选词的难度不大,只要结合上下文的语意即可,考生多在词形上出错.现分析如下:

　　A)阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后选择方框内所给单词的适当形式填空.每个词限用一次,方框内有多余的词.

　　painting,interest,art,admit,open,ill,day,child, impress,

　　appear,correct,success,nation,hold,travel

　　59.本题语境提供的信息有:①根据句意和上下文可确定所填词表示"展览开放的时间";②month让你迅速想到day;③be open可确定用副词daily.

　　60.本题语境提供的信息有:①￡3 for adults and￡2 for senior citizens, students and暗示填"某类人",由此可确定child;②citizens, students等暗示用复数children.
