【编者按】2004年1月11日至15日全国中学生英语冬令营在哈尔滨市第三中学举行。本次冬令营活动由国家基础教育实验中心外语教育研究中心和中国教育学会外语教学专业委员会主办，英语辅导报社和哈尔滨市第三中学承办。黑龙江省教育学院和哈尔滨市教育研究院协办。1月14日，第七届全国中学生英语演讲比赛(The 7th National English Speech Competition For Middle School Students)在哈尔滨市第三中学举行。以下是冬令营营员李肇宇同学的报道。

　　In winter the city of Harbin, whose streets are covered by heavy snow and with heat locked inside every window, seemed to have stopped growing and fallen asleep. However, the Reporting Hall of Harbin No. 3 High School didn't seem like that. Didn't you hear the cheerful voice in the northeast of the country? Passionate and confident voices, fearless and hopeful voices, young and excited voices. Those were our voices; they came from The 7th National English Speech Competition For Middle School Students, with belief in today, and dreams of tomorrow.

　　As a scheduled　activity for the top English speakers throughout China during the winter camp, the Speech Competition was held on Jan. 14th in the Reporting Hall of Harbin No. 3 High School, where our camp was located. Experts from English Coaching Paper and famous colleges were invited to be judges. 60 contestants were selected from over 150 campers-the best of the best, and then were divided into Junior and Senior groups. The Junior part was on the morning of Jan. 14th, and the afternoon belonged to the Senior part.

　　The competition was thrilling! All the contestants did a fantastic job and they did know how to arrest your heart, stop it beating and then make it beat again! Someone produced typhoons in the sea of our minds to destroy all kinds of war; someone acted gracefully-like an ambassador-analysing the problem of stress with the power of perfect logic; someone called and cried for our traditional culture with the magic of passion and rousing gestures. The love from the bottom of his heart also moved us all deeply.

　　All the morning and the afternoon, we were lost in the voices of the young people, not only by their attractive accents and speaking skills, but also by their vivid imagination and deep thoughts on the world. Everyone was shocked, but everyone became even more confident. We, the generation of the 21st century, recognised how excellent we were. As a song goes, "Imagination, never lose my passion. I'm on my way, on my way, colorful day..." We are on our way to be great, even though we've got a long way to go. Anyway, we know spring's root is there, we dream of a better world for the future.

　　No one can deny us the future. If winter has come, can spring be far behind? We stand on the land of snow. We hear the voice of hope.
