Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski has decided to remain at the school and turn down the lucrative offer to coach the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Lakers. After contemplating the reported five-year, $40 million deal over the weekend, Krzyzewski informed the Lakers of his decision. He has coached the Duke Blue Devils to three U.S. college basketball titles in 1991, 1992 and 2001, during his 24 years at the school. Krzyzewski, 57, has a 621-181 record at Duke, which has been ranked number-one in 12 seasons, including each of the last seven. Los Angeles has been searching for a new coach since June 18, when coach Phil Jackson resigned after the Lakers lost to Detroit in the NBA Finals.
