在限制性定语从句中，关系代词who, that, which在有的条件下可以省略，常见的有以下几种情况：

　　一、作宾语的关系代词who, that, which可省略(如果是作从句介词的宾语，而介词又前移到关系代词之前时，则不省略)。例如：

　　I know the boy (whom) you spoke of yesterday. 我认识你昨天谈到的那个男孩。

　　The man (that) I'm going to meet at the station is an old friend of mine. 我去火车站要接的那位是我的一位老朋友。

　　Was the book (which) you were reading a new novel?你刚才读的是本新小说吗？

　　二、作主语的关系代词who, that, which在以下情况可省略：

　　1.关系代词that或which在there be句型中作主语时。例如：

　　I have said all (that) there is to say. 我要说的话都说了。

　　The number of mistakes (that 或which ) there are in this homework is simply astounding. 这份家庭作业中的错误简直多得惊人。

　　2.定语从句位于it is, that is, who is, here is 和 there is 后。例如：

　　Who was that (who ) called on you while you were out? 你出去时来访的那个人是谁？

　　What is it (that) makes you so excited? 什么事使你那么激动？

　　3.定语从句与先行词之间有插入语 I know, we think 等时。例如：

　　She is just the type (that) I always knew would attract him. 她的确是我知道的能吸引他的那种典型的女性。

　　4.定语从句修饰"最高级(或only) +名词"这种结构中的名词；从句的谓语动词又是"ever +一般过去时的动词"时。例如：

　　He is the bravest man (that) ever breathed. 他是位空前的勇士。

　　She was the first woman (that) ever climbed Mt. Jolmolungma. 她是登上珠穆朗玛峰的第一位女性。

　　5.关系代词后接"have + come" 时关系代词可连同be, have 一起省略。例如：

　　It is a dream (that) come true. 这是实现了的梦。

　　Here are her two cousins (who have) come to see her. 这是两位来看她的堂姐妹。

　　三、关系代词作定语从句中系动词的表语时。例如：

　　I'm not the man (that, who) I was when you knew me first. 今天的我已不是你当初认识的我了。

　　People said he was everything (that) an honest man should be. 人们说他具有一切美好品质。

　　另外，强调句型中的that 也可省略。例如：

　　It's not everybody (that) knows the right way to test perfume. 并不是人人都知道试验香水的恰当方法。
