Other then doing well in their classes, you should strive to identify some topics related to their field of expertise and spend time to develop some depth of knowledge in these fields. Play an active role in class participation and set appointments during their office hours to seek advice. The scope and content of discussion should go beyond class materials. The most important part is to demonstrate your tenacity, focus and preparatory efforts. If they are comfortable with you, familiar with your capability and feel reasonably good about your academic performance, they may recommend you to your potential employers when their opinion is sought.
