  1. C。Both look strong and fast

  5. B。the difference在此指代上文的some athletes can reach great goals...及others never live up to their promise。

  6. C。strengthen the body与下文的strengthening the mind 相对。

  12. B。从下文Some use pictures that are more fanciful

  13. A。选择本空要与空格后的定语从句联系起来,make each move to do sth.

  14. B。联系上下文,a star bursting inside her 纯属于一种想象(imagination)。

  16. A。从空格后的pictured himself as a bird floating in the air 我们可以推知,运动员通过想象一只鸟轻轻滑翔在空中来使自己镇定。

  17. B。从空格后的floating in the air 得此答案。

  (B)

The nervous-looking young man hesitated for a few minutes outside the__1__shop before summoning up the__2__to enter. He was__3__by a young assistant who offered to help him. James felt a rush of__4__to his face as he explained he would bring__5__his girlfriend to choose an engagement ring out that day. The assistant listened and told him__6__the best way would be to make up two plates of rings which would suit both the young man's__7__and the young lady's__8__. Clearly they were used to things of this kind. He wasn't used to buying jewellery and was a little worried about spending__9__much money. Getting married was an expensive business but it would be a once-in-a-life-time thing after__10__. After some discussion as to a suitable price-range(价格范围) and the shapes and materials which his girlfriend might like, the shop assistant showed him some rings and offered to put them__11__. James __12__with her choice and left the shop__13__to return at five o'clock. When, half an hour later than__14__, he finally__15__return to the shop with his girlfriend. Laura, the assistant, acted as if she had never seen him before.__16__asked to show them engagement rings, she first brought out some cheap rings, giving the two young people the chance to__17__them before showing them the two plates of rings she__18__prepared. A__19__was soon made and the young man and young lady went away satisfied. James would __20__come back here when it is time to buy the wedding ring.

  2. A。 summon up the courage to do sth.

  5. A。 bring out "带……出去",bring about"带来(变化、影响等)",bring 不与with搭配,因此B、C、D均不合题意。

  7. D。

  9. D。A有较大干扰性,但very much不可以修饰名词。

  11. B。 put aside

  13. B。(James)答应五点钟回来,promising to return at five o'clock为现在分词短语作伴随状语。

  14. C。 than planned 是than it was planned 的省略形式。

  16. D。When asked...=When she ( the shop assistant) was asked...。
