　　2. bring back 带回来；拿回来；使回忆起来；使恢复

　　All library books must be brought back before June 12. 图书馆的所有图书必须在六月十二日前归还。

　　3. come about 发生；产生；造成

　　How did the mistake come about? 这个错误是怎样产生的？

　　4. a great many (= a good many) 大量的；相当多的

　　A great many people watched that programme. 很多人观看了那个节目。

　　5. bring in 引来；引进；吸收

　　The crisis worsened and the government had no choice but to bring troops in. 危机恶化，政府不得不招军队介入。

　　6. end up with... 以……结束；以……告终

　　His report ended up with a saying “Where there is a will, there is a way.” 他的报告以谚语“有志者，事竟成”结束。

　　7. leave out 忘记；忽略；遗漏

　　Her advertisement left out the telephone number. 她的广告中遗漏了电话号码。

　　8. on the air 正在播出的

　　The programme which I like best is on the air. 我最喜欢的节目正在播出。

　　【比较】in the air在流行中，流行的；in the open air在野外；put on airs装模作样，装腔作势。

　　9. stare at 凝视；目不转睛地看

　　It is not polite to stare at people. 瞪着眼睛看人是不礼貌的。

　　10. such as 诸如此类的；像……一样的

　　He knows several languages, such as English, French and German. 他懂好几个国家的语言，例如英语、法语和德语。

　　11. take place(事情)发生；产生；举办

　　The contest took place yesterday. 比赛于昨天举行。

　　12. think well of sb. / sth. 对某人 / 某事赞赏；对某人 / 某事印象好

　　I know my dear brother doesn't think so well of me. 我知道我的亲兄弟对我的评价并不好。

　　13. one another 相互；彼此

　　They couldn't understand one another because they spoke different languages. 他们由于语言不同，所以彼此不懂对方的意思。

　　14. prevent sb. (from) doing sth. 阻止某人做某事；不让某人做某事

　　That is because this professor has a disease which prevents him from speaking, so when he speaks he has to use a computer and a voice box. 那是因为这位教授得的病使他不能说话了，因此，他说话时只得借助于计算机和发声器。

　　15. see...off 为……送行

　　He was seen off by many of his friends. 他的许多朋友为他送行。
