(4)错综时间条件句

　　在此类条件句中从句表示的动作与主句表示的动作发生的时间不一致,这时,动词的形式要根据表示的时间来调整。

　　21)If I hadn't stood under the ladder to catch you when you fell, you ________ now.

　　A. wouldn't be smiling

　　B. couldn't have smiled

　　C. won't smile D. didn't smile

　　你落下的时候,如果没有我站在梯子下面接着你,你现在就不会笑了。(99.1 A对)

　　(5)"If only"(要是……该多好!)引导的条件句。

　　22)Look at the situation I'm in! If only I ________ your advice.

　　A. follow B. had followed

　　C. would follow D. have followed

　　瞧瞧我们所处的(糟糕)境地!要是我早听你的忠告就好了。 (93.6 B对)

　　23)If only the committee ________ the regulations and put them into effect as soon as possible.

　　A. approve B. will approve C. can approve D. would approve

　　要是委员会能通过这些规定,并使之尽快生效就好了。(97.1 D对)

　　2. 在方式状语从句中的应用

　　(1)在as if /as though引导的方式状语从句中,用过去式表示与现在事实相反或对现在情况持怀疑态度,用过去完成式表示过去想象中的动作或情况

　　24)The tree looked as if it ________ for a long time.

　　A. hasn't watered B. didn't water

　　C. hadn't been watered D. wasn't watered

　　那棵树看上去好像好久没有人给它浇水了。(92.12 C 对)

　　(2)lest引导的状语从句中,谓语动词用陈述语气或虚拟语气(should + 动词原形,should有时可省略)

　　25)The mad man was put in the soft-padded cell lest he ________ himself.

　　A. injure B. injured C. had injured D. would injur

　　这个疯子被关进墙上装有衬垫的监牢,以免他伤了自己。(98.1 A对)

　　3. 在让步状语从句中的应用

　　在wh- ever,no matter what (who, how...),whether...or... 引导的让步状语从句中用动词原形表示虚拟语气,主句用陈述语气。

　　26) ________ the consequence of my experiment, I am resolved to judge with my own eyes.

　　A. Whatever was B. Whatever were

　　C. Whatever it were D. Whatever be

　　无论实验结果怎样,我决心亲眼做出判断。(D对)

　　27) ________, she will have my support.

　　A. Whether she be right or wrong

　　B. Whether be right or wrong

　　C. Whether she were right or wrong

　　D. Whether were she right or wrong

　　无论她对或错,我都会支持她.(A对)

　　四、It is (high) about time +过去式或should +动词原形

　　这一结构的从句要使用虚拟语气表示"该做……而没有做"的意思,谓语用过去式或should +动词原形.

　　28)It's already 5 o'clock now. Don't you think it's about time ________?

　　A. we are going home B. if she leaves

　　C. we went home D. if she had left

　　现在已经五点钟了,难道你不认为我们该回家吗?(95.6 C对)
