The Dalian Medical College is training six dogs to become the country's first batch of seeing-eye dogs. The dogs will be able to guide their blind owners to the toilet, the kitchen, the table and bed at home and help them avoid obstacles and cross roads outside. The canine assistants are believed to have intelligence equivalent to that of an eight-year-old child. Trainers at the college said they hoped the dogs would be used for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. The mainland has 8.77 million people with impaired vision. (Liaoshen Evening News) |
