Young trainer prepares workers to take part in China's booming automotive industry How did you get involved in automotive technology? When I was a little boy, nearly every family had a bicycle, and when I finished high school, more and more Chinese families had their own cars instead of bicycles. As a boy, I always wanted to have my own car. When I passed the exam to get into the university, I chose auto technology as my major. After graduation, I began work at an auto service company in Beijing, and there I put the theories I learned from the books into practice. I improved myself gradually, but I found out that, in the service field, most of the workers only have the experience, not the theoretical knowledge. So then I paid attention to teaching my co-workers some theory, which helped them command their skills better and faster. Later, by chance I became a trainer the Bosch company in Shanghai, which is known around the world for producing car parts, such as those for the engine control system, including the PCM (power control mode) and ECM (electronic control mode) systems. What is the most attractive aspect of your present job? I can learn much from my present job. In the machining industry in China, the most urgent need is for professional trainers. The trainer must be equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. I now command more theoretical knowledge than practical experience, but I have the chance to put the theory into practice. What's more is I love cars, and I love the auto industry; it is so attractive to me. It provides me with such a large field in which to develop. Can you tell us some details about your job? My current job duties include being trained by the Germany parent company and then training the Chinese staff. The training includes very specialized skills relating to such important automotive systems as the engine system, ESP (electronic stability program), ABS (anti-lock brake system) and so on. What is the biggest benefit you gain from your job? The biggest benefit I gain from my present job is that I learn so much from it. I have improved myself so much and this makes me so confident in the field. Through my experience at this job, I can see clearly what I want most is to be an international standard professional trainer. Another benefit is that I have made so many friends here, and the good relationship between us has created a good environment for learning; they are so patient when I have something to ask them. They teach me how to work well with foreigners. I've improved my oral English, as well. How has the rapid development of China affected you and those around you? The development of the Chinese economy creates a big effect on the Chinese auto industry. Since China entered into the World Trade Organization, more and more well known international companies have entered into the Chinese market. For example, Mercedes-Benz will be building a production factory in Beijing in 2006. When that happens, Chinese workers for Mercedes-Benz can learn their skills at home instead of going abroad. As the industry develops, it provides more and more positions and chances for us. The automotive industry is a growing one in China. It has great potential. |
