　　范例1(2000年考研作文题)

　　This picture shows a drastic change in the worlds commercial fishing. At the beginning ofthe 20th century, human beings possessed abundant marine resources, as we can see in the upper half of the picture.

　　However, the lower half of the picture shows that nearlya century later, too many ships are chasing too few fish. The fish supplies have almost been exhausted by overfishing.

　　Judging from the picture, we can see that the drawers intention is very clear:

　　within about 100 years, humans have stripped the sea of her generous offerings. If we dont put an end to the trend, then the fish in the ocean could become extinct species in the foreseeable future.

　　There are several ways to set off the harmful effects. First, we must bring world population under a reasonable control, as overfishing is largely due to the need to fill the additional mouths. Second,

　　every year in the fishs mating season, a“grace period”should be enforced during which the fish are allowed to reproduce themselves. Third, stricter laws should be implemented. And fishermen must not use tightly meshed nets to capture fish that have not yet reached maturity. Only when these above-mentioned measures are putsintospractice can we save the fish from disappearing completely.

　　It is well-known that there has been a drastic increase in world population. But it is probably less well-known that the distinction rate of wildlife species is experiencing a parallel trend. Take the situation in theUnited States for example:

　　In 1990 U.S. population reached an unprecedented level of 250 million, which is approximately 250 times of that of 1800. On the other hand, wildlife species are disappearing from the country at an alarming rate: by 1900, about 70 wildlife species would never be seen in U.S.

　　Judging by the figures, we are fully justified in declaring that the explosive population growth has had an adverse effect on the survival of wildlife species, and will be a constant threat to the wildlife resources if no immediate actions are taken.

　　In the last two centuries, as industrialization and mans thirst for material goods grew, the earths natural covering of vegetation has been under constant encroachment, and the natural balance in the biological world was alteredinto a variety of ways. The rapid destruction of the tropical rain forests which are the ecosystems with the highest known species diversity on earth has led to vast-scale habitat destruction. Overgrazing, pollution are also accountable for the high extinction of wildlife species, which have to fend for themselves in unfamiliar environments, and die out when they cant cope with the situation well.

　　To sum up, nothing has ever equaled the magnitude and speed with which the human species is altering the physical and chemical world and demolishing the environment.

　　It is high time that we recognized the significance of biological diversity in all ecosystems. Population growth shall no longer go unchecked, more natural habitats of wildlife species should be consciously restored.
