　　编者按：今天距北京大学(分数线,专业设置)120周年校庆日还有2天。

　　每天都生活在园子里的我们，习惯了她的湖光塔影、缤纷四季。在园子外的人眼里，北大是什么样的呢？

　　北京大学坚守传统与责任，同时开放创新。近年来，有越来越多的来自不同文明、文化的各界人士来到北大访问交流。对于北大来讲，他们是客人，也是北大发展的见证者；他们将自己的经验和观点带到燕园，也以他者之视角看今日北大。

　　在过去三年的来访、交流、讲学活动中，校庆筹委会邀请到了诸多海外学界、政界、商界的有识之士谈谈他们眼中的北大和北大人。在百廿年校庆日即将到来之际，我们将这些积累下的点滴片段整理成了一个简短的视频。

　　这里是国际友人眼中的北大。这些直接的影像，能让园子里的人听见外面的声音，也是北大世界性认知度和影响力的一个侧影。

　　北大印象：北大为传承中华文明作出了卓越贡献，也对人类社会发展产生了深远影响。

　　北大印象：北大闻名于世界，不仅因为她的优秀，也因她一直以来卓越的教育，以及她对于世界的影响。

　　It’s also a place that’s known around the world for its excellence and its long-term commitment to outstanding education and to have an impact on the world。

　　寄语学子：理解东方与西方之间的同与不同正变得越来越重要。

　　Understanding the differences and similarities between the east and west is exceedingly important。

　　北大印象：耶鲁和北大是老朋友了。

　　And Yale has such a long history with PKU。

　　寄语学子：世事纷繁复杂，面对挑战时，我们必须坚韧不拔，砥砺前行。

　　The world is complicated， but we have to be resilient in the face of those challenges， and carry on。

　　It’s also time to learn and to work with the other people， understand other people and build friendships and relationships that will be value to you throughout your life。

　　北大印象：北大的学生非常优秀，非常努力，非常有竞争力，而且进步得非常快。

　　Students are fabulous， very hard-working， very competitive to get into。 But they’re also evolving very quickly。

　　北大印象：但是现在我们需要的是创新。创新，与新的思维，新的方式。也只有在北大，我们这种创新也是领头的。

　　But right now what we need is innovation。 New thoughts and new ways。 Only PKU， our innovation， is leading the trend。

　　北大印象：这所大学建校以来，你们取得了非凡的成就，特别是在过去的二十年里。

　　You have done tremendous achievements since the founding of the university and especially in the last twenty years。

　　寄语学子：不要害怕犯错，失败是成功之母。

　　And if you make mistakes， it’s ok。 We can always overcome them。

　　北大印象：我认为大学应该在自然科学和社会科学领域帮助我们的社会能够更好地解决未来的问题。

　　I think universities can help us， both on this in the nature sciences， but also on the social sciences， to make this inclusive society that solves the problems for the future。

　　Nothing succeeds like hard-work。 And if you like what you’re doing， then a hard-work is nothing more than play。

　　寄语学子：年轻人在事业的起步阶段，应该有机会去探索内心对知识的好奇。这是科学得以进步的原因，也将是北大在未来120年继续前行的动力。

　　Young people at the beginning of their career deserve an opportunity to explore their own intellectual curiosity。 That’s how science advances and that’s how Peking University can advance to its mission for the next 120 years。
