在英译汉过程中，有些句子可以逐词对译，有些句子则由于英汉两种语言的表达方式不同，就不能用"一个萝卜一个坑"的方法来逐词对译。在很多情况下，需要转换词类，才能使译文通顺自然。常见的词类转译法有：

　　一、名词的词类转译

　　(一)名词译成动词

　　英语中具有动作意义的名词和由动词派生出来的名词以及某些表示身份特征或职业的名词(如teacher，singer等)在句中并不指身份或职业而含有较强的动作意味，英译汉时须译成动词。

　　1、The sight and sound of our jet planes filled me with special longing.看到我们的喷汽式飞机，听见隆隆的机声，令我特别神往。

　　2、The next news bulletin,shorter than usual,made no mention of the demonstration.下一个新闻节目比通常短，没有提到游行。

　　3、The operation of a machine needs some knowledge of its perfor- mance.操作机器需要懂得机器的一些性能。

　　4、Peter proved to be an excellent storyteller.彼得故事讲得很出色。

　　5、Some of my class-mates are good singers.我同班同学中有些人歌唱得很好。

　　(二)名词译成形容词

　　Independent thinking is an absolute necessity in study.独立思考对学习是绝对必需的。

　　The security and warmth of the destroyer's sickbay were wonderful.驱逐舰的病室很安全也很温暖，好极了。

　　(三)名词译成副词

　　It is our great pleasure to note that China has made great progress in economy.我们很高兴地看到，中国的经济已经有了很大的发展。

　　二、形容词的词类转译

　　(一)形容词译成动词

　　英语中表示知觉、欲望等心理状态的形容词，在联系动词后作表语时，往往可译成动词。

　　Scientists are confident that all matter is indestructible.科学家们深信，所有物质都是不灭的。

　　Granny Li is very fond of children.李奶奶很喜欢孩子。

　　(二)形容词译成名词

　　He was eloquent and elegant-but soft.他有口才、有风度，但很软弱。

　　(三)形容词译成副词

　　He then acted as a reluctant interpreter.他当时并非情愿地当了一次翻译。

　　They regarded him as a potential adversary.他们认为他可能是他们的一个对头。

　　三、动词的词类转译

　　动词译成名词(一般是名词派生的动词或名词转用的动词)

　　To them,he personified absolute power.在他们看来，他就是绝对权威的化身。

　　Neutrons act differently from protons.中子的作用不同于质子。

　　四、副词的词类转译

　　(一)副词译成动词

　　She opened the window to let fresh air in.她把窗子打开，让新鲜空气进来。

　　Now,I must be away,the time is up.现在我该离开了，时间已经到了。

　　(二)副词译成形容词

　　The film impressed me deeply.这部电影给我留下了深刻的印象。

　　(三)副词译成名词

　　He is physically weak but mentally sound.他身体虽弱，但智力正常。

　　They have not done so well ideologically, however,as organizationally.但是，他们的思想工作没有他们的组织工作做得好。

　　五、介词的词类转译

　　介词译成动词

　　They went out after new mineral resources day by day.他们天天外出寻找新矿源。

　　The President took the foreign guests around the campus.校长带着外宾参观校园。

　　由此看来，英译汉时我们应该重视词类的转换以使我们的译文通顺、自然，符合汉语的表达习惯。
