Steve Coppell:"We're not going to moan about it" |
The manager of Reading FC, Steve Coppell, says he feels "hard done by" 处罚过重 the referee’s decision to award a penalty for handball 手球 against his team during Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Reading lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur after Robbie Keane scored from the penalty spot.
But Reading manager Steve Coppell said his player Greg Halford’s handling of the ball in the box 在禁区内手碰球 was not intentional.

Involuntary reaction
The ball popped up and hit his hand, for sure. I think it was just an involuntary thing from Greg. But no advantage was gained and I'm not sure if the penalty fit the crime.

Coppell said the ball "popped up" 弹起来 hitting Greg’s hand but it was an "involuntary thing" 不是故意的, meaning he touched it by accident.
He went on to question the referee’s judgement in giving a penalty to Tottenham.
Coppell said "no advantage was gained" 没有得到任何优势 by Tottenham from the incident and that he was unsure "if the penalty fits the crime" 这个罪行是否该判点球,这里crime是讽刺用法.
In other words, he thinks the Reading player did not benefit from touching the ball with his hand and that the referee may have been too hard in giving a penalty for this offence.

Hard done
We feel a bit hard done by but we’re not going to moan about things.

But Reading is not the kind of team to "moan about things" 经常怨声载道, or complain a lot, they cannot change, according to their manager.
Tottenham Hotspur’s manager Martin Jol was pleased with his team’s performance and stressed the importance of the result.
Jol said "this was a must-win game" 一场非赢不可的比赛, meaning that victory was crucial.

Bodies forward
They put a lot of bodies forward and took chances so credit to them. With their style it is always difficult and there is always pressure.

But Jol also had praise for the Reading team’s attacking style of play.
"They put a lot of bodies forward 派很多球员投入进攻 and took chances so credit to them 他们值得赞扬," said Jol.
Tottenham’s victory meant they moved up to sixth place in the premiership and are closer to qualifying for a place in next year’s European UEFA Cup tournament 欧洲联盟杯比赛.
But it was bad news for Reading who have now lost four of their last five games.
