Things are going from bad to worse 越来越差 for Premiership team Tottenham Hotspur. In eight games Spurs, as the team are more commonly 通常的 known, have only got two points and they remain 还在 at the bottom of the Premier League.

They were beaten once again last weekend, losing 2-1 to Stoke, who are third from bottom 倒数第三 in the league.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis was undoubtedly 毫无疑问的 happy that his team beat Spurs but he sympathises 同情 with their situation. "I just hope the chairman 董事长 who got rid of a very popular manager before – Martin Jol – now backs him and gives him a chance to turn it around 扭转形势".

Pulis hopes the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who sacked 解雇 Spurs' previous 前任 manager Martin Jol and replaced 换了 him with Ramos, will support Ramos during this difficult time and give him a chance to "turn it around". By this he means to give Ramos a chance to make things better so things change completely and they start to win and achieve again.

Pulis speaks highly 高度评价 of Spurs in spite of their recent bad luck. "They certainly have good enough players and a good depth of squad. They will get it sorted out sooner rather than later and when they do they will be a very tough 实力强的 team to play against."

By a good depth of squad he means a good range of players who have the potential 潜力 to perform really well. Tough is another word for difficult. Pulis thinks they can be difficult to beat if they start to perform to the level they are capable of 有能力的.
