Stonehenge
Located in southern England, Stonehenge is an archeological site of mystery. It is a monumental circular standing of large stones. The earliest stones were erected in 3100 B.C.
After a millennium had passed the site was remodeled with 80 pillars weighing up to 4 tons each. Other phases of development were added in the following 1,000 years. Some of the stones are up to 30 feet (9 meters) long and 50 tons (4,860 kg) in weight.
No one has clearly determined why Stonehenge was built. Some archeologists suggest it was a place of worship. Astronomers think it was a complicated computer for predicting lunar and solar eclipses.
