1. Bought it on sale
"Sale" refers to a discounted item. The price has been lowered for one reason or another and it is cheaper than the original price. This is a convenient way to tell someone that you have purchased a product at a lower price than the normal retail price. Some people are proud of this fact and will want all their friends to know how much money they saved. Other people will prefer to keep it a secret.
2. Too good to pass up
Some things in life are just so incredible that it is difficult to resist the temptation. "Pass up" is to not choose. To let it pass by you and onto another person. If something is "too good" then you will want to choose it, right? For example, imagine that you have a high paying job at a good company. One day, the CEO of a new company finds you and offers you a job with twice the salary. Of course, you say, "Yes!" We could say that the offer was just too good pass up.
3. Check it out
This phrase is a colloquial way to tell someone to go and see for themselves. It insinuates that there is something of unique interest. Obviously, you do not want to check out boring things. So if there is something interesting and you want your friend or colleague to see it then use this phrase.
4. The best things in life were (are) free
This is a statement about what a person thinks is important in life. "Best" here has many meanings. Opinions always depend on who is saying them. One person may think that breathing fresh air, walking outside, and being in love are the best things in life. Of course, all these things are free. Another person may think that an expensive car, a big house and a high-paying big corporate job is what life is all about. What is best for you?
5. Times have changed
What used to be true is no longer true. The "times" is talking about society and its way of doing things. Times do change. Society evolves. What is right today, for example wearing badly designed clothes, is not right tomorrow. This is how society grows. This phrase is not just about fashion. It can include many things. Your friends may still use an old method of living. If this is the case you can remind them that there is a better way to do it now by using this phrase.
