今天，在很多大城市都有提供顾客存放物品服务的地方，成百上千个密密麻麻的小柜子排在一起，每个顾客可以选择一个或多个箱柜来存放自己的物品。在一些公共浴室和游泳池等地方，这些小柜子也是经常被使用。这样的小柜子可以使人联想到计算机的"内存"，一台计算机就是使用许多许多像这种小箱柜一样的"内存"来储存数量浩繁的信息。由于这些"内存"是按某种方式有序地排列的，所以计算机的用户可以很方便地提取自己所需要的信息。

　　事实上，人脑里也有这样的小箱柜或"内存"，或者说也可以建立起这样的小箱柜或"内存"，用来存放所学到的东西如英语方面的内容。

　　我们先来看下面的英语句子：

　　上面的每一个句子里面都有一个加着重号的字，如果把每一句话比喻成一个人，这个加着重号的字就是这个人的名字或某个重要特点，这就便于记忆。

　　我们把加着重号的字连在一起，便成为：

　　白日依山尽，

　　黄河入海流。

　　欲穷千里目，

　　更上一层楼。

　　这是家喻户晓的王之涣五言绝句《登鹳雀楼》。事实上，当你记住以上的四句诗，同时又记住了以上加着重号的字以后，不需要借助任何资料你就可以随时随地回忆和复习这些句子，反复回忆强化，最终达到"记忆万年"的效果。这些加着重号的字就像存在于你大脑中的一个个箱柜或"内存"(或者说可以在你大脑中建立这些箱柜或"内存")。由于这些字带有强烈的提示性，很像渔民捕鱼时渔网上浮出水面的一个个"浮标"，牵动着它下面的一张张英语句子构成的"大网"，所以，该方法称为浮标英语学习法，又称浮标诗情英语学习法。

　　用一首较短的诗，例如五言绝句或七言绝句来作"浮标"，一般来说学习者都可以准确记住要记忆的内容。但如果再加以适当的联想，记忆就更轻松自如。譬如前五句我们可以这样联想：人生如白驹过隙，太短促了。但人人都有出头之日。所以，他依靠自己的力量，努力奋斗，辛勤跋涉在两国山水之间，其中的苦和乐是一言难尽的。

　　事实上这种联想不需要形成文字，它可以是模糊、片段和若有若无的。

　　在以较长的诗歌如律诗或宋词作"浮标"时，这种联想有极好的加快提示速度和帮助记忆的效果。这种联想的方法在《迷彩游戏》一书中有更详尽的介绍。
