　　One week before Chinese New Year, the picture of the Kitchen God or the red paper is burned. The smoke carries the Kitchen God to the skyswhereshe reports to the Jade King. He tells the Jade King what the family has done during the past year.

　　Some people try to change the Kitchen God’s report. They put something sweet on his mouth before burning the picture. This is to make sure his words will be“sweet.”Others say the sweet things keep his mouth closed so that he cannot speak.
