Sven Goran Eriksson (ENG coach)
(On the 1-1 draw): Maybe it is a fair result. We could have maybe scored a second goal in the first half and we could have sealed the game that way but I must say that Sweden played well in the second half.
(On Danny MILLS' defensive error which gave Sweden their equaliser): Of course it's a pity but in football sometimes there are mistakes.
(On taking off captain David BECKHAM in the 63rd minute): I think he was tired and it was his first game in seven or eight weeks. So I think it was better for the rest of the tournament.
(On taking on Argentina in the nextsgroupsF qualifying match): It is very, very important. In fact both games are, it is very difficult.
Lars Lagerback (SWE coach)
(On why Sweden are so strong against England): One reason is that we have a lot of players playing in Britain and they know the character of the English players and how they usually play. Perhaps that’s a little advantage.
(On his thoughts before the match): Our captain was injured yesterday evening and we had a new centre-back in. We said as a game plan that we should control the match, and I think we did that very well–they didn’t create so many chances. As we were a goal down we said at halftime that now we would go back to our normal space play and not control it so much. The players played a really good game in the second half.
(On whether he is satisfied with the result): Yes, in total of course. I think they performed very well. I’ve mixed feelings because I think we created really some good chances in the second half so with a little bit of luck we could have won, but it is okay anyway.
(On the next matches in thesgroupsphase): Yes, everybody says it is a tough group, so it is an okay start. We have to concentrate now and try to perform well against Nigeria and if we do that we have a good chance to go on to the second stage.
(On the other two teams insgroupsF): It is, of course, tough. I saw the first half between Argentina and Nigeria before we played, and I think Argentina is one of the big favourites for the World Cup. Nigeria, you never know - they are a little bit unpredictable, so it will be two tough matches but we have taken the first step and it was okay.
David Beckham (ENG midfielder)
(On England’s performance): We didn’t start as well as we should have but all credit to Sweden - they carried on going and kept on fighting, they got the goal and then to be fair at the end they had a few chances and then (ENG goalkeeper) David Seaman kept us in the game.
(On England losing control in the second half): I don’t know what it was. A lot of the lads are down in the change room but there’s no need to be. At the end of the day we’ve not lost a game, but we felt that in the first half we played some really good football.
(On whether he thought the first game was crucial): Yes, of course. I have always said that. People make a lot about the Argentina game, but we said that the first game was always the crucial one. We’re pleasantly pleased really, at the end of the day, because we could’ve ended up losing the game.
