　　Take the bull by the horns可不是“抓住牛角不放”或“钻牛角尖”。我们都知道，要打败蛮牛，首先要应付的自然是它的双角。西班牙斗牛士有时看着朝他胸腹插来的牛角避无可避，就会用手抓着保住性命。英国人这一招叫做take the bull by the horns(抓着公牛双角)。抓住了牛角，就可以设法打败蛮牛了。所以是否能果断地迎牛而上，一把抓住牛角就成了能否取胜的关键。所以，take the bull by the horns就比喻“当机立断”。

　　由十九世纪末开始，英国人常常用take the bull by the horns这句话来比喻“不畏惧、不退缩，毅然处理困难或危险事情”。

　　例如：A policeman must take the bull by the horns when he meets a crisis.

　　警察遇到突发事件时，必须当机立断。
